Coming Soon: Ice Road Truckers, The Movie!

I’ve watched History channel’s “Ice Road Truckers” a handful of times, and most of the time on the show is spent telling you just how easily the ice under each truck can crack. Which means I spend an hour waiting for a truck to finally fall through the ice and pull a “Sweet Hereafter,” sending the truck driver to a frigid doom. But that totally never happened when I watched the show because the drivers are all like, professional and stuff.

Ah, but if someone were to make a FICTIONAL movie based on that show, you can bet there’d be trucks sinkin’ a plenty! And that’s just what the folks at Fox plan on doing, preparing their own Ice Road Truckers movie. AW YEAH. From Mike Fleming over at Deadline:

As Max Payne director John Moore finishes the first graphic novel he helped create, he tells me he has set his sights on a 3D big screen transfer of the reality series Ice Road Truckers as his next film.

"It is very much a tough guy movie," Moore said. "Here's a bunch of characters who tackle problems by getting in there and getting things done. We'll turn it into a mission movie that harkens back to Towering Inferno, Jaws, or The Guns of Navarone. You got a problem, go solve it."

CHECK OUT THE HOOK WHILE HIS DJ REVOLVES IT. ICE ICE BABY!!

Sorry. Anyway, Moore “Max Payne” movie wasn’t exactly well received, but “Ice Road Truckers” is a natural for a movie adaptation. The desolate landscapes and nutjob drivers alone are enough to hold your interest. Cross that with semis plunging into the Arctic at 85 mph, and you got yourself a movie. And, should that prove successful, it could lead to other reality show adaptations. “Deadliest Catch”? Oh yes. “Intervention”? Why not? “Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course”? Uh… best not to discuss it.
