Army Investigates Alleged “Racial Thursdays” at Alaska Base

The U.S. Army is reportedly investigating allegations that some soldiers at Fort Wainwright in Alaska were allowed to use racial slurs against each other, without consequence, during what was known as "Racial Thursdays." The Army Times reported the allegations from two anonymous soldiers that said the practice was considered a "tradition" and, although it was forbidden, it still goes on. An official spokesman for U.S. Army Alaska told the Army Times that a commander's inquiry has been opened after an informal complaint was made. "The command is extremely sensitive to any allegations that involve equal opportunity or discrimination and will investigate every allegation," Lt. Col. Alan Brown told the Army Times.
