#Aaliyah15: Remembering R&B Singer Aaliyah 15 Years Later

"It's great that everybody appreciates what she did for the short time she was here"

Fans have taken to social media to mourn the loss of R&B singer Aaliyah Haughton on the 15th anniversary of her death at just 22 years old.

On Aug. 25, 2001, Aaliyah and eight others died in a plane crash in the Bahamas. The plane caught fire shortly after takeoff. She was returning home after time in the Caribbean filming the music video for her new single "Rock the Boat."

Aaliyah collaborated with music legends Timbaland and Missy Elliott over the course of her short career.

"It's great that everybody appreciates what she did for the short time she was here and it's amazing that her legacy is still alive, it's amazing," choreographer Fatima Robinson told Essence magazine earlier this year.

Aaliyah had shared her excitement about being cast in "The Matrix Reloaded" during an E! interview in 2001. But she was not able to star in the movie as it began filming after her death. Nona Gay assumed her role.

A Lifetime biopic on her life, "Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B," aired in 2014.

On social media, fans used the hashtag #Aaliyah15 to share their remembrances of the pop princess.
