Knife-Wielding Woman Steals Ambulance, Then Dies in Crash With Big Rig: Officials

A knife-wielding woman stole an ambulance, and then crashed into a semi-truck, killing herself and the big rig driver, officials said.

According to California Highway Patrol officials, a paramedic and an EMT were responding to a 911 call at a home in Frazier Park Wednesday when the armed woman highjacked the ambulance and took off.

The crash took place near the Flying J Travel Plaza on Frazier Mountain Park Road, officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

Prior to the collision, the woman reached speeds of 100 mph, CHP officials said.

"That ambulance hit that truck driver head-on. There was no brakes, there was no swerving, nothing," said witness Charlotte Deese.

Some witnesses described the ambulance swerving into the path of the big rig, but CHP Sgt. Zachary Emmons said it was unclear if the woman deliberately slammed into the truck.

"He didn't have a chance. To maneuver an 80,000-pound rig like that, you cannot do that like you can a small vehicle," said another truck driver, who was nearby when the vehicles collided.
