Man Arrested After Hours-Long Pomona Standoff

A suspect was arrested Saturday afternoon following an hours-long standoff after he shot and killed one officer and wounded another in Pomona, California.

Just after 2 p.m., officials confirmed the man had been taken into custody.

His identity was not immediately disclosed.

Officials received a call of the barricade at approximately 9:10 p.m Friday in the 1400 block of South Palomares Street. About an hour later, the first officer was wounded after multiple shots were fired.

The two officers hit were transported to a local hospital, where one of them, 30-year-old Officer Greggory Casillas, died.

The incident began with a short pursuit after officers received a reckless vehicle call, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department homicide detective Christopher Bergner said at a Saturday morning news conference. The suspect left the vehicle and ran into a nearby apartment complex, with officers giving chase, Bergner said.

The suspect hid inside a bedroom and shot through a door as the officers tried to make contact, he said.

Officers escorted the fallen officer to the Los Angeles Coroner's Office at a Saturday morning procession.

He has been identified as Officer Greggory Casillas, 30, of Upland.
