Police Memorial Procession in Lower Manhattan Marks 15 Years Since 9/11

An NYPD pipe band lead a march of police officers by the World Trade Center site on Friday afternoon to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks and to honor the people who lost their lives that day and in the years after. 

The NYPD Emerald Society lead pipes and drums from across the country in the procession from Cedar Street and Broadway to the New York City Police Memorial in Battery Park City.

Seventy-two police officers were among the 2,606 killed in the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center 15 years ago Sunday, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. Hundreds more people died in the following months and years.
