Miami-Based School Accused of Using Strippers to Lure Students

State and federal officials say a now-defunct, for-profit, Miami-based college accused of fraudulently obtaining millions in federal dollars used exotic dancers as admissions workers.

The Florida Attorney General and the U.S. Attorney in Miami announced Wednesday that they were joining an ongoing civil suit against FastTrain College and its former owner, 56-year-old Alejandro Amor.

FastTrain previously operated seven Florida campuses in Miami-Dade, Broward, Hillsborough, Pinellas and Duval counties. The complaint claims from at least January 2009 through June 2012, when FastTrain closed, the company and Amor knowingly bilked the U.S. Department of Education out of millions with falsified grant applications.

The complaint says FastTrain employed female exotic dancers as admissions representatives at least one campus to lure young male students. Officials say staff also falsified documents and coached students to lie on financial aid forms.

Amor was charged criminally in October. A telephone message left at a listing for Amor wasn't immediately returned.
