A trio of robbers stole a laptop and cellphone from two customers who fell asleep at a Long Island McDonald's, and when one of the patrons awoke and confronted the group, they sprayed a chemical in his face and ran off, authorities said.
Police said a man and two women caused a disturbance in the McDonald's on Hempstead Turnpike around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The man grabbed the electronics from customers who had fallen asleep at separate tables as the trio left the fast-food restaurant.
The 58-year-old man who had his laptop stolen woke up and followed the suspects to Manor Parkway and McKenna Avenue, where he demanded they return his computer. The male suspect then sprayed a chemical in the victim's face, causing pain and swelling to his face and eyes, authorities said.
All three suspects ran off. The 58-year-old man was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Anyone with information about the robbery and attack is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
