Iran Sentences Washington Post's Jason Rezaian to Prison: State Media

Jason Rezaian, the Washington Post’s bureau chief in Tehran, has been sentenced to jail, according to state media.

The dual American-Iranian citizen was convicted of unspecified charges in October — including espionage — and has been detained for 480 days. The semi-official IRNA news agency reported Sunday that Rezaian was given a prison term, but didn’t specify the length of the term, NBC News reported.

Neither the State Department nor his family said they could confirm the report.

Leila Ahsan, Rezaian's attorney, told the Associated Press she wasn't informed about the verdict or the sentence ahead of time.

Rezaian’s family and the newspaper say the charges are bogus.
