A slow moving storm turned some Hawaiian towns into estuaries as the Big Island struggled to cope with over 30 inches of rainthat dropped on the first day.
Meteorologists predict high storm surges and flooded coasts. Oahu, Maui, Molokai and Lanai braced for their portion of heavy rain and gusts as the once-powerful hurricane, which was downgraded to a tropical storm Friday, made its way past the islands.
