Florida Woman Arrested for Throwing Dog Out of Moving Car

Deputies arrested a woman for throwing a dog from a moving car in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Wednesday.

Volusia County Sheriff's captain Shane Summers saw 69-year-old Mary Radford swing the driver's side car door open and throw a poodle from her car as she drove through an intersection, according to NBC affiliate WESH.

The dog, a 3-year-old poodle named Minnie, tumbled into the road. Minnie then ran toward a parking lot as Radford drove away.

Three women stopped to help the dog as Summers followed Radford. When he caught up to her, Summers said she claimed the dog fell out of the car without her noticing, but the witnesses and Summers said they saw her throw the dog.

Minnie was taken to the Humane Society. She appeared to be unhurt but shaking uncontrollably.

Radford was charged with animal cruelty. It is unclear if she has an attorney.
