Colorado Woman Bitten by Shark in Central Florida, Fights Shark Off With Punch

A Colorado Springs woman's family vacation was cut short when she was attacked by a shark on a Florida beach, fighting the animal off with a punch.

The Gazette of Colorado Springs reports that 28-year-old Jill Kruse was bitten on her lower right leg Sunday after wading in the Atlantic Ocean off Florida's Cocoa Beach. Her mother says she was waist deep in the water when the bite occurred.

Kruse's mother, Wanda Kruse, says after the bite her daughter reached down into the water and punched the shark in the nose. As the shark released her, she cut her hand.

This is the second Colorado Springs resident to suffer a shark bite this year, 16-year-old Hunter Treschl lost his left arm in a shark attack along the coast of Oak Island, North Carolina.
