Clerks Tied Up During Lincoln Park Jewelry Store Robbery

Robbers flee with undermined amount of merchandise

Police are looking for suspects after three robbers tied up two employees of a Lincoln Park jewelry store Friday and robbed the business.

Police say two men and a woman entered Holtzmann's on North Clark Street at about 1:15 p.m., flashed a gun and ordered the male and female employee into the basement, where they were constrained and held at gunpoint.

The robbers fled with what the owners believe is in excess of $200,000 worth of jewelery.

Paul Cresenzo had his wife's original wedding band was in the shop being worked on.

"My wife came home crying and said the place was robbed and our wedding bands were inside," Cresenzo said.

Fortunately, they later learned the ring was not a part of the stolen property.

The suspects may have been staking out businesses in the area.

Veena Gheelwala, who owns nearby Sanaya Threading and Skin Care, says police recently told her to be on alert for two males and a female and to keep her doors locked.

Police are working on a more detailed description of the suspects. No injuries were reported in Friday's robbery.

Another armed robbery occurred in the area at 3:30 p.m. near Mildred and Wrightwood. Police say a man using a semi automatic weapon robbed a woman of her wedding ring and cell phone.

Police have stepped up patrols and the local alderman's office has sent out a notification warning residents.
