A bad showing in the third quarter put Irving-based jeweler Zales on the fast track to close stores.
Zale Corporation said it will also try to negotiate lower rent as it deals with a larger than expected third-quarter loss.
Customers spent a little more money than in previous quarters, but there just weren't enough of them.
The jeweler reports a 20 percent decline in sales.
