Young Woman Found Dead in North Dallas Apartment

Police and family search for person who took 20-year-old woman's life

A Dallas family is desperate for answers after a 20-year-old Erika Mong was found dead in a North Dallas apartment Friday.

Police said they responded to the 5800 block of Preston Oaks Road after a reported burglary. Officers forced entry into the apartment and found Mong dead of an apparent gunshot wound.

A witness told police he called 911 after being unable to get into the apartment to move furniture.

Mong’s sister Margarita Munoz told NBC5 that Mong had been visiting a friend who lives in the same complex. She said in her last phone conversation with Mong, her sister told her she loved her and that she’d see her at Thanksgiving dinner. She never showed up.

"To lose someone so close to you, it feels like my heart has been taken away from me," Munoz said.

Dallas Police have not made any arrests and, according to a press release, have no suspect description to release.

Mong’s family is asking any witnesses come forward to help in the investigation.

"Why someone would do this, I don't understand," Munoz said. "We just want justice."
