Terrell police said they were called to a Schlotsky's Deli on the 1600 block of South Texas 34 at 8:05 p.m. and found the children โ€” ages 5 and 6 years old โ€” wearing pajamas and walking on the shoulder.

While on the way, officers learned that a white 2014 Volkswagon Passat, with two small children inside, had just been stolen in Forney, according to police. The children matched the description of those found by officers.

One officer made contact with the children, who were unharmed, while the other found the stolen Passat parked at a nearby Starbuck's with the engine running, police said. The vehicle was unoccupied.

Police said they notified the children's mother, 36, who arrived shortly after.

A witness at Starbuck's told police the person who stole the Passat was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and carrying a sack north on Texas 34.

Terrell and Forney police continue to investigate.
