Officers were called to the single-vehicle crash in the 4600 block of Dexham Road, where they said the Layla Elena Del Angel was belted in the back seat, but not in a car seat, police said.

Police said the vehicle was traveling faster than the posted speed limit before crashing into a tree, according to a witness' account.

Rowlett police are investigating a deadly crash on Dexham Road.

Police said Friday they obtained a court order to obtain a specimen of 24-year-old Cynthia Del Angel's blood for analysis. She was driving at the time of the crash, and medics transported her to a nearby hospital in serious condition, police said.

Police said Cynthia Del Angel had been involved in a minor accident with a pickup on Lakeview Parkway just minutes before the fatal crash. Dispatchers asked the drivers to pull off the roadway and into the QT convenience store until officers could get there.

Police said Cynthia Del Angel drove off and crashed her car a short time later.

Police said the accident is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.
