Wounded Fort Worth Officer Thanks Community for Support

A Fort Worth police officer shot in the line of duty is improving, and is confident he will head home from the hospital soon.

In a video message released Wednesday, Officer Matt Pearce spoke to a crowd of fellow officers in Fort Worth and thanked them for their support.

"We're doing good. I'm gonna keep fighting, and we're gonna get this done, and I'm coming back," Pearce said.

Pearce was moved out of ICU on Tuesday, and his recovery is said to be going well.

His wife, Laura Pearce, attended Wednesday night's event and thanked those who have helped their family through this tough time.

"Matt even said today he firmly believes that it's the prayers of the people that got him through this, and I wholeheartedly agree. There's just no other explanation for his survival," Laura Pearce said.

Also Wednesday the officers presented Laura Pearce with two checks from various fundraisers. All together, volunteers have raised about $150,000 for Pearce's family.
