A North Texas mother who told police an intruder killed her husband and then later claimed he committed suicide has been charged in his death nearly three months later.
Michele Marie Williams, 42, was arrested near her home on Monday afternoon in Flower Mound, where she now resides.
Williams called Keller police at 4:40 a.m. on Oct. 13, saying that an intruder broke into their home and shot her husband in the head.
"My husband was shot," she said in a call to 911. "Somebody was in the house."
The investigation revealed there was no intruder, and Williams quickly changed her story. She told police she made up the intruder story and staged the attack to try to cover up her husband's suicide to protect her young daughter.
Since that time, investigators have been collecting information and building a case against Williams.
On Monday, she was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, tampering with evidence and filing a false police report.
Greg Williams' former wiife, Cathy, said she suspected Michele Williams from the beginning.
"She was the only one in the house," Cathy Williams said.
She said her former husband seemed to get along fine with his current wife and that she only had one motivation to kill him.
"Money -- she's always been a working stiff, struggling to get by; single mother, three kids," she said. "And she found a guy who has a lot of money and she's like, 'Hmmm.' That's my opinion."
