A man has been charged with intoxication manslaughter after hitting and killing a pedestrian in Dallas Tuesday evening.[[291595851,L]]
Emily Javadi, 34, who was standing on the curb and leaning into the back seat of a parked vehicle, was thrown into a metal pole when another driver crashed into the parked car.
“It’s unbelievable right now,” said friend Rahim Quazi. “We are hurting pretty bad.”
Javadi was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the car, later identified by police as 23-year-old Travis Elwell, was speeding along the 4000 block of McKinney Avenue and didn't see the parked car in front of him, police said.
Elwell was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter.
Friends describe Javadi as joyful, passionate and as someone who never met a stranger.
“When she walked in a room, not only did she command attention just because she was beautiful and tall, and on top of that she really had a way of pulling people in,” said friend Lori Brennan.
Javadi volunteered for a music organization known as Open Classical. Director Mark Landson says Javadi was supposed to attend Classical Open Mic at BuzzBrews later that evening. Instead, he received a phone call with the news of what happened.
“She was just one of those bright lights, she loved music, loved art, loved making Dallas, Texas the most artistic place it could possibly be,” Landson said.
“She was strong and she was beautiful, of course, but she cared,” Quazi said. “She came to any event whether it was a party or concert and she was in the middle of it all.”
Open Classical will hold a special Classical Open Mic night for Javadi next Tuesday evening at BuzzBrews on Lemmon Avenue.
