Woman Shot Dead By Austin Police Brandished BB Gun

Investigators now say that an Austin woman shot dead by police who felt threatened by the handgun she held was brandishing a BB gun.

In a statement issued Monday, the Austin Police Department identified the woman as 26-year-old Micah Jester. She died at a hospital shortly after the pre-dawn shooting Sunday at a South Austin apartment complex.

Jester's boyfriend called 911 about 3:45 a.m. Sunday to say Jester was behaving erratically and asked for a mental health officer. Officers arrived to find Jester pointing a gun at them and shouting for them to shoot and kill her.

Assistant Police Chief Troy Gay said that after she fell to the ground, she again pointed the gun at officers and once again drew police fire.
