Woman Refuses to Drop Gun, Killed by Houston-Area Deputies

Authorities say a woman brandishing a pistol at an apartment complex south of Houston has been shot and killed by sheriff's deputies after she refused orders to drop the weapon, then raised and pointed it at the officers.

Brazoria County Sheriff's officials say two deputies opened fire on the woman.

The name of the victim has not been immediately released and no motive has been disclosed. The sheriff's department says the woman's pistol has been recovered.

A sheriff's department spokesman says a leasing agent at the apartment complex in Pearland, about 20 miles south of Houston, called for help Tuesday afternoon after he spotted the woman with the pistol, who told him to leave her alone as he approached her.

The sheriff's department and Brazoria County district attorney are investigating.
