Woman Killed in Arlington Domestic Shooting

Arlington police say a man killed himself after fatally shooting a woman outside of her place of employment Sunday afternoon.

Family and friends of Maria Ojeda, 46, were shocked to learn she'd been killed outside of the beauty salon where she worked as a hairdresser.

“I didn't see her like my aunt,” said Janie Ojeda, who is the victim’s niece. “I saw her like my sister.”

Relatives said Ojeda was a hard-working woman who supported her four kids. But she was in a rocky off-again-on-again relationship with her estranged husband that turned deadly.

“It does appear to be domestic related at this time,” said Lt. Christopher Cook, with the Arlington Police Department.

The alleged shooter has been identified as Hector Acosta, 50.

Police said the man walked into Lily's Salon on Abram Street where he got into a confrontation with Ojeda and chased her outside. Police said he shot and killed her and then shot himself. He later died at the hospital.

One witness heard the shots while he was working at a nearby tire shop.

“We hear about three gun shots,” said Malik Ibrahim. “I told everybody in the office to get down because I realized they were gunshots.

Police combed the scene for evidence, while Ojeda's family gathered where she died wondering why she was brutally killed.

“I’m angry because I can’t do anything,” said Janie Ojeda. “There’s nothing to be done. It already happened. We just have to be strong for everybody else.”
