Woman Killed by Train in Arlington

Arlington authorities said a woman who was hit by a train early Thursday morning has died.

At about midnight Thursday, Arlington 911 received a call from the Union Pacific railroad reporting that a train had struck a woman, later identified as 54-year-old Regina Brown, at Division Street and Great Southwest Parkway.

The train crew told police the woman ducked under the gates and hesitated before trying to beat the train across the tracks.

The train was traveling around 50 mph at the time of impact. The front of the eastbound freight train traveled about a mile before the locomotive could come to a stop following the collision.

Police said they found the woman's body on the tracks near the grade crossing. The medical examiner later said Brown died from multiple blunt force injuries due to the impact.

The crossing at Division and Great Southwest Parkway has lights and crossing guards to warn about oncoming trains.
