Woman Found Dead in Hurst; Suspect Arrested

Police in Haltom City have arrested Randy Allen Cummings, 42, in a homicide investigation after his wife's body was found Friday morning in Hurst.

Hurst police said they found Laura Cummings, 43, dead inside an apartment in the 700 block of East Pecan Street after they were dispatched to perform a welfare check about 10:30 a.m.

“She had an appointment scheduled for today, and when she didn’t make an appointment that group asked us to call and check on her,” said Hurst Assistant Police Chief Richard Winstanley.

When officers arrived they said they found the sliding glass door to the Laura Cummings' apartment shattered.

Winstanley said that Randy Allen Cummings and Laura Cummings were husband and wife.

Now, investigators are trying to figure out what led to the murder. Winstanley said that the homicide was most likely an incident of domestic violence.

“We’re still working on a time line. Trying to backtrack, making contacts, discussing issues with neighbors to see if they saw or heard anything,” Winstanley said.

Neighbors said they are stunned.

“I’ve never seen this. Since I’ve been down here I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Julie Santiago, who's lived at the complex for 15 years.

“I didn’t hear nothing last night. I got up in the morning a 8 o’clock. I walked the dog at 12 o'clock. I didn’t hear nothing. It’s a tragedy to hear something like that,” Santiago said.

Officers said Randy Allen Cummings was later arrested at a home on Clarence Street in Haltom City.

The home is near Natha Howell Elementary School, so the school had a controlled release at the end of Friday's school day to ensure the students' safety.
