Woman Dies After Being Found in Van at Texas Care Center

A disabled woman living at a state care center has died after she was found inside a van at the facility in Brenham.

Carrie Williams, spokeswoman for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, says the woman was missing for several hours Tuesday before being found in the van.

Williams says the woman was a resident of the Brenham State Supported Living Center and may have died from heat exposure.

It's not clear if the mentally impaired woman wandered into the van or may have been left inside upon returning from a trip.

Two employees of the center were reassigned from roles directly caring for residents. An investigation into the death is ongoing.

The Eagle newspaper reports that more than 250 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities live at the center.
