Wisconsin Teen Drowns During Family Trip to Corpus Christi

Officials have identified a 13-year-old boy from Wisconsin who drowned after having gone swimming near a state park along the Texas Gulf Coast.

Gabriel Carpenter's body was found Monday afternoon near Mustang Island State Park.

Carpenter had been reported missing Sunday after he had gone underwater and never resurfaced while swimming with his family off a beach near the park, located east of Corpus Christi.

A U.S. Coast Guard boat and helicopter had searched for Carpenter, along with the Corpus Christi Fire Department.

Carpenter was found Monday afternoon by a woman who was walking along the beach and saw his body in the water.

The Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office says the cause of death was drowning. Carpenter was from Ellsworth, Wisconsin.
