Businesses and community members teamed up to give a Fort Worth middle school something it never had before: A baseball team.
The Kirkpatrick Middle School Mighty Wildcats took the field Saturday afternoon in a matchup with the Calvary Conquerors.
Kirkpatrick staff member Nancy Paolucci told NBC 5 the Wildcats are "the first ever middle school baseball team in the Fort Worth Independent School District." A district official confirmed that, yet made it clear "that the District is not starting middle school baseball."
The latest news from around North Texas.
Paolucci said the Fort Worth chapter of the National Latino Law Enforcement Organization, councilman Sal Espino and several businesses paid for the uniforms, equipment "and all things needed for baseball."
Paolucci tells us the Wildcats lost 7-1 but seeing those players on the field did the heart good.
