Whooping Cough Confirmed in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD

A second case of whooping cough in as many weeks has been confirmed in the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, officials say.

The district notified parents on Tuesday that a student in the 10th grade has a case of pertussis. No other identifying information about the student was released.

Last week, the district told parents of another case of pertussis on Dec. 13. Additional details, including the student's grade, were not available.

District officials outlined a plan for staff members to encourage proper hand washing to reduce the spread of infection.

Whooping cough is vaccine-preventable but it is highly contagious.

The infection causes episodes of severe coughing.
