White Rock Lake Expected to Crest Above Flood Stage

With the current drought conditions, North Texas has needed the rainfall that started falling Tuesday afternoon.

In Dallas, White Rock Lake has risen from a depth of 70 feet to 80 feet over the last 24 hours.  Meteorologists expect the lake to crest Wednesday afternoon at about 86 feet, or two feet above flood stage.

The area around White Rock Creek near Greenville Avenue and the low water crossing at Lawther Road was overrun by the rising water.

Georgia resident Don Mosley said after hearing about the Texas drought, the recent deluge wasn't expected.

"I like to walk every morning, but I didn't expect it to be raining like this in Dallas" said Mosley. "This past year I've been living over in Georgia, I've been hearing all about the Texas dust bowl and all this and I expected to see this when I got here.  This is not what I was expecting.  It looks like a lake out here where last year I was out walking all over this dry ground."

The rain is expected to subside Wednesday evening, though scattered showers are possible into Thursday morning.
