When it Starts to Feel Humid, Here’s Why

Spring is that time of the year when it tends to get muggy in North Texas. The dew point tells us how much moisture is in the air. It is the temperatures the air would be if the atmosphere was saturated. It gives us a direct sense of how comfortable or uncomfortable warm air will feel.

The map above represents Wednesday evening’s dew point temperatures. The higher the dew point is, the muggier the air feels, while the lower the dew point, the drier the air is. To most people, any below the 50 degree mark feels great. Once temperatures climb above the 60-degree mark, it starts feeling sticky and humid, anything above 70 F starts getting brutal. Meanwhile, anything below 30 degrees is considered dry. This is typically when dry and cracked skin becomes noticeable.

Temperatures will stay above normal through the weekend with dew points above 60s. This will make for a warm Mother’s Day weekend.
