West Nile Detected Near Lewisville Retirement Community

Multiple positive West Nile virus tests have been detected in the area behind the Renaissance Village Retirement Community in Lewisville.

It's the same retirement community where at least two residents contracted the virus in 2012. One had to be hospitalized, according to Lewisville Community Relations Director James Kunke.

Five of the city's 10 positive West Nile virus mosquito tests have been found in the area near South Edmonds Lane.

The city has conducted two rounds of spraying, totaling four nights, and placed larvicide in the infected area.

The latest round of spraying in the area was conducted two weeks ago.

The city checks its traps every week and is awaiting the most recent results to make sure the virus isn't present any longer.

Two human cases of West Nile virus have been documented in Denton County, but none in Lewisville.
