Expect some overnight delays this weekend on a busy stretch of North Dallas freeway.
On Friday night starting at 11 p.m., the 35Express Project will shut down southbound I-35E from I-635 to Royal Ln. The closure will last until 6 a.m. Saturday, and then the same stretch will shut down again Saturday night at 11 pm until Sunday morning at 6 a.m.
Crews will be moving several large beams over the interstate to create the new express lane system; each beam measuring about 125 feet and weighing about 340,000 pounds.
The following roads will also be shut down in that area this weekend:
- The southbound I-35E entrance ramps from Valwood Parkway and Valley View Lane will be closed from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16.
- The ramps from east- and westbound I-635 to southbound I-35E will be closed from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16.
Kimberly Sims, Public Information Officer for the project, said Thursday that they are trying to make the closures as least disruptive as possible.
Similar shut downs on the Northbound side are expected later this month.
Sims said the entire 35Express Project, which runs from I-635 in Dallas to Highway 380 in Denton, is still on track to be completed in mid-2017.
