Sailor From Weatherford Killed in Afghanistan

Clayton Beauchamp died Tue., Aug. 7

A sailor from Weatherford has become the latest North Texan to be killed while participating in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Naval Petty Officer 3rd Class Clayton Beauchamp was killed Tuesday, Aug. 7, in the Shaban District, Helmand Province - a Taliban stronghold, according to the Department of Defense.

Beauchamp was killed when an improvised explosive device went off while he and others were walking along a road on patrol, the D.O.D. announced in a release.

Beauchamp was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 1st Arine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 6, 1st Marine Division,, Marine Expeditionary Force out of Camp Pendleton, California.

Beauchamp's Facebook page includes a note from his mother that he was preparing to propose to his girlfriend once he returned from Afghanistan.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Beauchamp's older brother, who is also in the Navy serving in Afghanistan, will accompany the body home.
