Weather Delays I-30 Lane Shift Markings

Markers lead to some confusion for drivers

Road crews will complete lane change work that has been causing Fort Worth drivers heading west on Interstate 30 some confusion.

As drivers head from Summit Avenue toward University Drive, the lanes shift, and a fourth lane to exit on Forrest Park Boulevard is gone. The lane shifts are part of the construction of the Chisholm Trail Parkway toll road.

But the lane markers are still visible and the new ones are not completely clear because this week's rain delayed construction crews.

"We rolled out crews Tuesday night," said Michael Rey, of NTTA, which is building the toll road. "There was a slight chance of rain in the forecast, but nothing like what we saw. And subsequent nights, we saw trouble as far as weather, too, so this weekend, we'll button it up."

There is just a 10-percent chance of rain at times this weekend, and crews expect to finish the lane shifts.

Rey said crews have to finish the last bit of striping and the buttons, which won't stick when it's raining.

The Chisholm Trail Parkway construction is six months into an expedited timeline of 30 months to complete the 27.6 mile tollway from downtown Fort Worth to Cleburne. It is the first toll road built by the NTTA in Tarrant County.

This week's rains created the project's first weather delay.

"I know we all welcome the rain. It's good for the area," Rey said. It's not the perfect storm for this project at this time."

Work typically doesn't take place over the weekends, but will begin at 9 p.m. Friday and could last through the weekend.

The NTTA encourages drivers to take their time through the construction zone and pay attention to changes in the roadway, as more changes are likely in the area over the next two years.

Rey also said drivers should sign up for construction updates.
