Watkins Holds Town Hall to Fight Budget Cuts

Watkins believes making budget cuts will increase crime and costs

Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins is holding a town hall meeting Tuesday night to discuss the impact that budget cuts to his department would have on Dallas citizens and the criminal justice system.

All county departments were ordered to reduce their current budgets by 10 percent to help avoid a tax increase and to make up for the countyโ€™s $64 million budget shortfall.

For Watkins, the budget cuts would mean laying-off more than two-dozen people in his department, which he believes would increase crime rates and costs.

Watkins will discuss ideas ways to avoid the budget cuts Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at a town hall meeting at Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas.
