In a statement, Mesquite police said officers tried to stop a silver Honda Accord in the area of westbound Interstate 30 at Interstate 635. The vehicle, a silver Honda Accord, was reported stolen in Garland the week before.

As of about 1:30 p.m., the chase was going through neighborhood streets in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood of Dallas. The driver continued along I-635 into Lake Highlands before circling back into Mesquite.

The chase lasted about an hour, police said, with speed reaching up to 90 to 100 mph. At several points, the car was speeding the wrong way, weaving in between oncoming traffic. Two Mesquite police vehicles were rammed by the driver, police said.

The driver, a 16-year-old juvenile from Dallas, was taken into custody after he jumped out of the car and tried to run away. He was charged with evading arrest in a vehicle and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
