Wandering Toddler Struck, Killed by Motorist in Houston Suburb

A 2-year-old girl wandering along a residential street in suburban Houston Monday night was struck and killed by a car, according to a report by KPRC-TV.

The toddler was hit after somehow slipping out of the family's home on the 1400 block of East Bay Shore Drive in San Leon, KPRC said. After being struck by a passing car, the child was flown by air ambulance to the University of Texas Medical Branch where she later died.

The girl's mother was home at the time and officials said they aren't sure how the child ended up outside.

Child Protective Services and the Galveston County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident, KPRC said.

KPRC reports the driver stopped to help. It's not clear what charges, if any, the driver may face.
