Video Shows Woman Being Dragged During Robbery

Police said the robber stole $200 and a Black Galaxy cell phone

Police are investigating after a woman was dragged and robbed at a Miami gas station in an incident captured on cellphone video.

Officers responded to reports of a robbery at the Shell Gas station on the corner of 54th Street and Biscayne Boulevard just after 7 a.m. on March 17.

Detectives said the woman met the unknown man hours earlier, and the two agreed to share a taxi cab to another location. When the cab "came to a complete stop," the man got out of the vehicle and tried yanking the woman's purse away, police said.

The victim struggled with the man inside the cab and held a tight grip on her purse, according to police. The man overpowered her and forcefully tugged the purse, dragging the woman along with her bag out of the car.

Cellphone video released Wednesday by Miami police shows the alleged robber violently tugging at the purse and dragging the victim on the ground as she tries to hold on to it. At least two bystanders look on and do not intervene, including the cab driver, who walks around to close the passenger door and then drives off.

Footage shows the woman eventually losing her grip, and the man pacing the gas station while rummaging through her purse.

Police said the robber stole $200 and a Black Galaxy cell phone. The woman was able to get back her purse and begged the man to return her belongings.

He ignored her and left the scene, police said.
