Veteran Plano Police Officer Arrested for DWI, Evading Arrest

A veteran Plano police officer was arrested early Wednesday morning, accused of drunken driving and evading arrest.

Plano police said officers were called out at around 2:30 a.m. for a single-vehicle crash at Hedgecox and Robinson roads.

Police said 43-year-old Byron Edward Betler did not immediately stop when officers tried to pull him over and that's why he was charged with evading arrest. No other information was available.

Betler is a 10-year veteran of the Plano Police Department and was awarded Rookie of the Year in 2006. He is currently on administrative leave and police are conducting an internal investigation.

Betler is out on $500 bond for driving while intoxicated and $500 bond for evading arrest.
