Call it the price of progress. As if Interstate 35W in North Fort Worth, that is usually a bottleneck, isn't a big enough headache, Tarrant County drivers will want to steer clear of the 35W and Loop 820 interchange late Wednesday night.
Flashing digital signs have been warning about lane closures in the area for more than a week, but if you've wondered what it's all about here are the details according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
Alternating lanes of northbound 35W from the Meacham Boulevard off-ramp to the Melody Hills off-ramp will be temporarily closed at various times from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday morning.
The latest news from around North Texas.
Alternating lanes of northbound I-35W from the Melody Hills off ramp to the I-35W/ Loop 820 interchange will be temporarily closed at various times.
Bottom line, and already nightmare drive will be even worse late Wednesday and overnight into Thursday. So if you are sitting in traffic after 10 p.m., don't say we didn't warn you.
Better yet, avoid the area.
If getting to Blue Mound, Saginaw or Lake Worth on the west side of Loop 820 is your goal, try getting off I-35W northbound at the Northeast 33rd Street exit or Northeast 28th Street/S.H. 183 exit well before the construction area. Turning left on N.E. 33rd St. will put you on Long Avenue which, just like N.E. 28th St., will take you to Main Street/Highway 287. Heading north you'll be on Saginaw Main, or you can get on Loop 820 eastbound to Blue Mound or westbound to Lake Worth.
If getting to Haltom City, the Fossil Creek area of Fort Worth or areas north of Loop 820 is your goal, using Northeast 28th Street/S.H. 183 is your best bet, you can go north on Beach Street, Haltom Road or Denton Highway/U.S. 377.
Turning left (west) on Western Center Boulevard from Beach Street will take you back to I-35W well after the construction area.
Another alternate that'll avoid all the people taking these alternates is using Jacksboro Highway/S.H.199. Sure there are quite a few stoplights, but it beats tail lights on I-35W any day.
