A production company is filming scenes in Dallas and Fort Worth this week for a feature film on University of Texas football standout Freddie Steinmark.
According to AuditionsFree, filming for "My All American" will take place Monday and Tuesday at the Cotton Bowl in Fair Park and at TCU's Amon G. Carter Stadium on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
The film chronicles the touching relationship between legendary Texas coach Darrell K. Royal and one of his players, an undersized and scrappy Colorado-bred defensive back named Freddie Steinmark, during the team's 1969 national championship run.
After the season, Steinmark was diagnosed with bone cancer while receiving treatment for what he thought was a deep bruise on his left leg. The bruise turned out to be a tumor, a bone sarcoma, and his left leg was amputated.
Steinmark returned to class in the spring of 1970 and was an inspiration to many as he "gained nationwide recognition for his determination and stamina." Though he continued to fight, Steinmark lost his battle with cancer on June 6, 1971, according to the Texas State Historical Association, in Houston.
The film stars Aaron Eckhart as Royal and soap opera star Finn Wittrock as Steinmark.
