USDA Designates Drought Disaster Areas in Texas, 3 Other States

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated 29 Louisiana parishes and 10 counties in Mississippi, Arkansas and Texas as drought disaster areas. That lets farmers and ranchers who can prove sufficient drought losses eligible for low-interest loans.

A news release lists 13 Louisiana parishes as the primary disaster areas. The other 16 parishes and 10 counties are adjacent to them. Two additional Mississippi counties are eligible for disaster aid because they're adjacent to some of the dozens of Tennessee counties also declared disaster areas Friday.

The counties declared disaster areas in Texas are Bowie, Camp, Cass, Fannin, Harrison, Lamar, Marion, Morris, Red River, Titus and Upshur.
