US 75 North of Dallas Closes During Snowy Weather, Accidents

A Texas snowstorm has closed schools, snarled traffic and forced a main highway to Oklahoma to shut down after dozens of vehicles slipped off the road.

The Department of Public Safety says U.S. 75 near Melissa, 25 miles north of Dallas, was closed for a time but southbound lanes reopened Friday afternoon.

Sgt. Lonny Haschel had no reports of injuries. He says at least two vehicles were in an accident, then other vehicles swerved to avoid the wreck and went off the highway.

The Collin County Sheriff's Office says as many as 40 vehicles left the road.

Forecasters say the Dallas-Fort Worth area received nearly an inch of snow Friday. Lubbock had 4 inches of snow.

Schools in Lubbock, Abilene, Midland, Odessa and San Angelo called off classes Friday.
