U.S. 377 Reopens After Train Derailment in Roanoke

Officials said U.S. 377 has been reopened in Roanoke Monday after a Union Pacific train hauling coal went off the rails last week.

The train derailed causing some cars and coal to fall into Denton Creek near the 3000 block of North U.S. 377 Aug. 21.

Part of the bridge collapsed and authorities said about 1,600 feet of rail had to be replaced.

U.S. 377 had been closed from Farm-to-Market Road 1171 to Bobcat Boulevard for several hours at a time during the week that followed.

Roanoke city officials said Monday that no more extended closures were expected, though occasional temporary closures were possible.
