TxDOT Prepared for Winter Weather

State gears up for the first winter blast of season

NBC 5 News

Crews across Dallas-Fort Worth geared up for possible winter weather Monday morning with widespread rain and freezing temperatures expected.

The Texas Department of Transportation said it has crews in Dallas and Fort Worth ready to treat interchanges, bridges and overpasses should any of the precipitation begin to freeze.

"TxDOT is prepared with a plan to maximize all available resources to ensure sufficient manpower, material and equipment is available to address area roadways," the agency said. "Resources that both districts will use include: magnesium chloride de-icer (both in liquid and solid form), salt, sand and chat (a salt and sand mix)."

The department told NBC 5 it has 140 vehicles for treating of bridges and overpasses in the Tarrant District and 185 vehicles in the Dallas District.

Approximately 450 employees will work in 12-hour shifts.
