TX Official: No Alcohol Sales at UT Football Games This Fall

The University of Texas System chancellor says he won't approve beer and wine sales at Longhorns football games in Austin this fall.

Chancellor Francisco Cigarroa told the Austin American Statesman that he and UT Austin President Bill Powers agreed the school needs more study of alcohol sales at basketball, baseball and track events before allowing it at football games.

Texas long banned alcohol sales at athletic events before allowing some last spring.

Cigarroa says there were no problems with alcohol sales so far, but he added that he doesn't want to rush it for football games that draw close to 100,000 fans.
