Two Children Sent to Hospital after Apartment Fire

Two children were taken to the hospital after a fire started at a Dallas apartment early Tuesday morning.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a fire call at the Cielo Ranch Apartments in the 3800 block of Gannon Lane at about 2:37 a.m., officials said.

When firefighters arrived, they found flames coming from a second floor apartment where a man and two children were leaning out the bedroom window, officials said. A second team of firefighters used a ladder to rescue them.

According to investigators, a man and his three grandchildren were in the apartment when the fire began. The man awoke to the smell of smoke, took one of the children to safety and became trapped when he went back for the other two.

Officials reported no injuries and said the children went to the hospital as a precaution.

According to the Dallas Fire Department, three units of the apartment complex were damaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
