One Texas teenager will win two tickets to Super Bowl XLV at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington and meet Troy Aikman. The NFL Hall of Famer is co-sponsoring an essay contest with the topic of teamwork.
He wants 13- to 18-year-olds to write about how teamwork has helped them reach an important goal.
"I don't think anyway, that there's any way you can get to [the Super Bowl], much less win the game, without having a great team," Aikman said. "Sacrificing individual achievement for the broader good of the team. I think those are the things that are extremely important for any group of people to go on and have success."
Having played in three world championships, Aikman knows good teamwork happens on the football field, but he's looking for teamwork of all kinds.
"Oftentimes, you could say that would even entail being a part of a successful family," Aikman said.
Winners in three age categories also get prizes: a Dallas Cowboys helmet autographed by Aikman and a Motorola Droid phone.
Aikman's advice for crafting a winning essay is "just whatever kind of tugs at their heart strings. I think all of us have been part of something that we all thought was special or unique, or you put in a lot of effort or a lot of time."
