Relief is on the way for the thousands of drivers stuck in rush hour traffic along Texas 114 through Roanoke.
"The growth is just phenomenal in this area and we're doing everything we can to keep up with the funding to get these projects built," Texas Department of Transportation spokeswoman Michelle Releford said.
This fall, work begins to widen Texas 114 where it narrows just west of Southlake, adding a lane in each direction.
"They're going to build from the inside," Releford said. "It'll be inconvenient for the motorists, but it will be better because we're building on right-of-way we already have."
TxDOT will also build a proper highway interchange at Texas 114 and Texas 170, where Charles Schwab is planning to build a large corporate campus employing 1,200 people.
"We'll have main lanes on 170 instead of the frontage road lanes," Releford said. "So that's going to alleviate the traffic off of the frontage roads."

Both projects should be finished within two years, just about the time TxDOT is planning to build an overpass along Texas 114 at U.S. 377, to extend 114's main lanes and eliminate a stoplight that grinds traffic to a halt.
"I can't wait. I mean, it's going to great," said Roanoke Mayor Carl "Scooter" Gierisch.
"It's also going to be struggle for a little while, just like anyone else that's ever been under construction," the longtime mayor said. "We'll definitely be in a situation where we'll be surrounded by construction."
